[Tues] Intermediate 4-Week Ramen Course

What to Expect

🎨 Intermediate Ramen Bowl Course This 4-week pottery course is designed for those experienced with centering, pulling even walls, and basic throwing techniques. Refine your skills while creating functional ramen bowls and accessories. 🍜 🏺 Course Schedule | Tuesdays at 6:30 PM, 2 hours per class, running November 4–November 25 | $150 👉 Classes run every Tuesday evening, with each week focused on a different aspect of creating ramen bowls and accessories, combining hands-on practice and personalized instruction. Week 1 (Nov 4) — Throwing Ramen Bowls 🍜 • Focus: Making larger, functional forms. • Demo: Throwing wide/deep ramen bowls (8–9”), emphasizing even walls and smooth interior curves. • Practice: Students throw 2–3 bowls. Week 2 (Nov 11) — Trimming + Slip Decoration ✂️🖌️ • Focus: Refining and decorating surfaces. • Trimming Demo: Creating stable, elegant foot rings. • Slip Decoration Demo: Slip trailing (lines, dots, noodle-inspired squiggles), brushing slip for bold strokes, and layering slip for contrast (dabbing/sponging). • Practice: Students trim and decorate their bowls while leather-hard. Week 3 (Nov 18) — Handbuilt Ramen Accessories 🛠️ • Focus: Building complementary pieces. • Demo: Handbuilding projects like chopstick rests, spoon rests, or small dipping dishes. • Practice: Students create 2–3 small accessories. • Discussion: Cohesive design choices for a unified ramen set. Week 4 (Nov 25) — Glazing (Brushing Only) 🎨 • Focus: Brushwork for depth and expressive surfaces. • Demo: Applying even coats with a brush (thin, overlapping strokes), layering multiple colors, dry brushing for texture, and using wax resist to expose slip areas. • Practice: Students glaze their bowls and accessories using only brushwork techniques, focusing on highlighting slip work from Week 2. • Wrap-up: Group reflection and presentation of completed ramen sets. 🛠 Materials All studio tools are provided during class. 💡 Why Small Classes Matter With just 13 students per class, you'll receive personalized instruction and hands-on practice. Most students complete 3–5 final pieces (max of 6 to ensure kiln space). 🤝👩‍🎨
