Overview

Matcha Mondays is a 5-session pottery course designed for tea lovers interested in creating their own traditional matcha tools. Whether you're new to clay or continuing your pottery journey, this hands-on class guides you through making a complete matcha set: a matcha bowl (chawan), a whisk holder (chasen kake), and a sip mug to enjoy your matcha in! We kick off on Saturday, May 2nd with a matcha crawl—meet your classmates, explore matcha together, and get to know each other before we start building in the studio (drinks not included). Monday, May 4th begins our studio sessions, followed by May 11th, May 18th, and Monday, May 25th—all 6:30–8:00 PM. Over the first three Mondays you'll learn wheel throwing and handbuilding to create your bowl, sip mug, and whisk holder. On May 25th, glaze your pieces while Mylai Matcha leads a live matcha demonstration: whisking, preparation tips, and insights into matcha culture as you finish your work. Small class sizes (maximum 13 students) ensure personalized instruction and plenty of hands-on support. After the final session on May 25th, finished pieces will typically be ready for pickup in about 10 days.

Refund Policy

Non-refundable 5 days before the start. A $25 cancellation fee applies before this. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is also enrolled in the course.

Course Schedule

Week 1 (May 2 (11am–1pm)): Matcha Crawl KickoffNon-pottery • Matcha Crawl
Start the course together with a matcha crawl: meet your classmates, share tastes and conversation, and connect before we begin making in the studio. We'll gather at a starting location and visit nearby spots together—details announced before the event. Drinks are not included in the course price.

Week 2 (May 4): The Matcha Bowl (Chawan)
Learn wheel-throwing fundamentals and create your primary matcha vessel.

Week 3 (May 11): Sip Mug
Handbuild a mug for enjoying your matcha using coil-building techniques.

Week 4 (May 18): Whisk Holder (Chasen Kake)
Practice taller forms on the wheel to create a functional stand for your matcha whisk.

Week 5 (May 25): Glazing Session & Matcha Demonstration
Glaze all of your pieces using food-safe options while Mylai Matcha shares a live matcha demonstration—whisking techniques, preparation, and matcha culture—as you work. After this session, finished pieces will typically be ready for pickup in about 10 days.

Note: Drinks during the matcha crawl are not included in the course price.
