Wacky Wednesdays Handbuilding Course

Overview

Wacky Wednesdays is a 5-week all handbuilding course perfect for beginners! Learn the fundamentals of handbuilding pottery including pinching, coiling, and slab building techniques. Create your own unique ceramic pieces without using the wheel. Classes meet Wednesdays from 6:30–8:30 PM, beginning February 4. Small class sizes (maximum 13 students) ensure personalized instruction and plenty of hands-on support. Most students finish 4–5 final pieces (maximum of 6 to ensure kiln space). All tools and materials are included.

Refund Policy

Non-refundable 5 days before the start. A $25 cancellation fee applies before this. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is also enrolled in the course.

Attendance Policy

If you cannot attend a session, please email potterychicago@gmail.com before enrolling and we will inform you if a makeup option is available.

Course Schedule

Week 1 (Feb 4): Pinch Pots & Basic Forms
Learn the foundational pinch pot technique and create simple forms.

Week 2 (Feb 11): Coil Building
Master coil building techniques to create taller forms like vases and mugs.

Week 3 (Feb 18): Slab Building
Explore slab building to create flat forms like plates, platters, and boxes.
4
Week 4 (Feb 25): Surface Decoration
Learn texturing, carving, and decorative techniques to personalize your pieces.
5
Week 5 (Mar 4): Glazing
Glaze your finished pieces using food-safe options. Finished pieces will be ready approximately one week after glazing and held for 60 days after firing.
