Intro to Handbuilding
Handbuilding is pottery without the wheel — you shape clay with your hands, a few simple tools, and a lot less pressure. Over two hours you'll work through the three techniques everything else is built on: pinching a form from a single ball of clay, coiling walls up from rolled ropes, and cutting and joining flat slabs. You choose what to make with them, whether that's a dish, a small vase, a planter, or something that only makes sense to you. No experience is assumed and nothing is timed. Our instructors circle the table the whole session, so you get help at the moment you need it rather than at the front of a lecture. Clay, tools, aprons and studio glazes are all included, and we fire everything for you. You'll pick your finished piece up at the studio about three weeks later, once it's been through both firings.
